Alpha Packaging has introduced two polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles for the health and beauty industry. Both of the new styles feature a 20mm neck with a special finish that accommodates either 20-400 or 20-410 closures. Alpha developed the two styles at the request of customers who were looking to save money on closures. Alpha will offer these styles as part of its growing stock line of personal care packaging.
The new 4-ounce Squat Boston Round has the same neck finish as Alpha’s 1-ounce, 1.5-ounce and 2-ounce traditional Boston Rounds, so companies looking for a family of smaller sizes can use the same closures for all four bottles. The wider base on the 4-ounce Squat style bottle also makes it ideally suited for pump dispensers.
The 4-ounce Cylinder features the same neck as Alpha’s 2-ounce Travel Cylinder, so it is easy for customers to match the closures for both sizes of Cylinders as well.
“When companies can source a single closure to fit multiple products in their line, it’s more convenient for them,” says Marny Bielefeldt, Alpha’s Marketing Manager. “And by switching from a 24mm closure to a 20mm closure, companies can experience cost savings as well.” Bielefeldt adds that because Alpha was able to use an existing preform to create both of these new bottles, “The development cost and the lead time to create the unit cavity were greatly reduced.”
Alpha manufactures more than 30 styles of Traditional and Squat PET Boston Rounds at four locations across the United States, as well as several styles of straight-sided PET Cylinders. Currently, production tooling for the 4-ounce Squat Boston Round is complete and production tooling for the 4-ounce Cylinder is scheduled to be complete in September. The new styles will be stocked in clear and light amber, and additional colors – including custom colors – will be available with very short lead times.
