| Tucson, AZ – At its 2007 Annual Convention held April 25 through 29, the National Association of Container Distributors (NACD) named Alpha Packaging its 2007 Supplier of the Year. According to the NACD, the Supplier of the Year Award is one of the most coveted recognitions in the container industry, honoring a supplier who has consistently made valuable contributions to the entire distribution channel.
Dave Spence, President and Chief Operating Officer of Alpha Packaging, says this award is important to every member of the Alpha team. “The NACD represents the highest standards of the packaging profession,” Spence says, “and to know that we have earned the respect and recognition of the people who drive our industry means very much to all of us.”
NACD members vote for the best suppliers in several categories, and the supplier with the most votes is selected as “Supplier of the Year.” Char Sloan, NACD President, said Alpha Packaging was ranked “best” in all categories of the 2007 award criteria evaluation process. “They have made it their mission to provide great products along with world-class service to their NACD distributor partners,” she said.
As part of its commitment to distributors across the country, Alpha has added two new plants since January of this year. The first plant is a 120,000 square-foot facility in Jacksonville, Florida which Alpha built in order to serve customers in the Southeastern U.S.; the second is a 100,000 square-foot plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan which it acquired in February when it bought Quality Container Company. “Our growth strategy follows our customer base,” Spence says. “We have grown our business in all areas of the country over the past four years, and these two plants will help us provide regional manufacturing of our most popular product lines.”
In addition to the NACD Supplier of the Year Award, Alpha’s polyethylene terephthalate (PET) Capri Ovals also received an award for “Creative Use of Stock Components” at the NACD Annual Meeting. Several sizes of Capri Ovals are used by Granite City Tool HomeStone Care. NACD voters said the stock packaging has “strong shelf appeal, with white bottles accented with red and black labels for an eye-catching “wow” factor.” Alpha’s compostable vitamin bottles made from NatureWorks PLA corn resin for Highland Laboratories also received recognition.
Alpha Packaging manufactures bottles and jars for the nutritional, pharmaceutical, personal care and niche food and beverage markets. The company works with customers in these industries to create functional, attractive and cost-effective packaging to meet their needs. Alpha Packaging has invested in state-of-the-art injection blow molding equipment for PET and high density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles and jars, as well as extrusion blow molding equipment for HDPE. It also runs some polylactide (PLA) and polypropylene bottles and jars. In addition to the two new plants, Alpha’s 210,000 square-foot headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri; 80,000 square-foot plant in Salt Lake City, Utah; and 93,000 square-foot plant in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania allow Alpha to cost-effectively ship bottles to any North American location. Alpha also maintains a sales force and warehouse in The Netherlands, and works with a network of international distributors to meet global demand for their products.
